Weave Player
Turns a family Mac into a home server that plays films, shows and music on every screen.
About
Weave Player turns a family Mac into a server for the films, shows and music already on it, playing them on every Apple device in the house. It is built for a household whose collection already sits on a Mac or an external drive, not one starting a new streaming subscription.
Playback runs on libmpv and FFmpeg, decoding in hardware through VideoToolbox, so MKV, AVI, MP4, TS and VOB files in H.264, HEVC, VC-1 and AV1 play as they are, with DTS, TrueHD and FLAC audio. Files stream over the household's own network with HTTP range requests, so scrubbing to the last twenty minutes of a three hour film starts there right away.
Each family Mac indexes what it holds, and the collections join into one shelf, with every title marked by which library it came from. Kid profiles filter by rating, and Weave Pro is a single $34.99 purchase covering Weave Player, Weave FM and Weave Radio for every Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV in the household.
Every format
The engine is libmpv on FFmpeg, decoding in hardware through VideoToolbox, so MKV, AVI, MP4, TS and VOB containers with H.264, HEVC, VC-1 and AV1 video and DTS, TrueHD and FLAC audio play as they already are, without a conversion step.
Every screen
Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV all read the same library over the household's own network, found through Bonjour with no address to type and no port to forward.
Libraries on more than one Mac
Each family member keeps their collection on their own machine. Weave Player joins them into a single shelf, marks which library each title came from, and lets playback seek across them.
Built for the family
Kid profiles filter the library by rating and keep their own watch and listen state. Channels adds the streaming services already paid for as tiles in the same window, and a fourteen day release strip tracks the shows being followed.
One price
Weave Pro is a single $34.99 purchase, not a subscription, and it covers Weave Player, Weave FM and Weave Radio for every Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV in the household.
