About

Signalbox Audio gives every app on your Mac its own microphone. It installs a virtual microphone that your applications select like any other input, and a signed menu-bar app takes your real microphone, treats it, and hands the result to that device. Zoom can get aggressive cleanup while your recorder gets the raw signal, at the same time, from the same microphone.

Rules name an application and say which chain it gets. A rule mentions only what it changes and everything else follows your default, so adjusting the default adjusts every app that was meant to follow it. Each chain is a sequence of transient suppression, steady noise, a high pass, leveling, and a presence lift.

Keystroke noise is removed from what a caller receives. The bench command that ships with Signalbox prints the keystroke reduction and the margin left on your voice and on a hard consonant, so you can measure the result on your own Mac. Signalbox runs on macOS 14 or later with Apple silicon.

A virtual microphone for every app

Signalbox appears in the microphone list of every app on your Mac, so joining a call works the way it always has while each app receives its own treated stream.

Per-app routing, in and out

A rule names an application and picks its chain, in both directions: what goes into your microphone stream and what comes out of your speakers.

A raw tap beside the call

A raw tap can run to a second device at the same time, so the call is processed while the recording alongside it is exactly what the microphone heard.

Keystrokes removed by timing

Transient suppression finds the few milliseconds when energy appears across the whole spectrum at once and pulls those bands back, leaving voices and consonants alone.

Three numbers you can re-derive

The bench command prints keystroke reduction, the margin left on your voice, and the margin left on a consonant. Each figure travels with the one that constrains it.

A signed menu-bar app

The menu-bar app drives the same live monitor as the command line, with devices, probe, bench, routes, and sweep commands for checking your own Mac.
