About

Clip Fetcher is a Mac app that saves a video or file from a link and files it where you will find it again. Paste a link or drop one anywhere in the window, select Audio only when you want just the sound, and the download lands in your library with a cleaned-up title. Your recent fetches sit in the window, each with a Reveal button that opens it in Finder.

Every download is filed by source, then year, then date, with a metadata sidecar that keeps the uploader, duration, and original URL searchable long after a filename stops meaning anything. Clip Fetcher recognizes a video by the site's own id, so an edited title or a different share link fetches the same video once.

Paste an article instead of a video and Clip Fetcher finds the players embedded in the page, including players tied to the publisher's domain, and files each one with the article recorded in its sidecar. You can also fetch from the Services menu on selected text in any app, from a clipfetch:// link, or from the command line.

An agent can drive the whole app. The resolve, fetch, and check commands return JSON and take no interactive input, and a built-in MCP server lets an assistant fetch, transcribe, summarize, and file your clips while you stay in the app you were using.

Filed by source, year, and date

Each download is filed under its source, year, and date with the title cleaned up and preserved, plus a metadata sidecar holding the uploader, duration, and original URL.

One fetch per video

Clip Fetcher keys on the site's own video id, so a renamed title or a new share link points back to the copy you already have.

Paste the article, get the video

When a link is a page, Clip Fetcher finds the Vimeo, YouTube, JW Player, and Brightcove players inside it and records the article beside each file.

Audio only

Select Audio only and the fetch saves just the sound, filed in your library the same way as a video.

Fetch from anywhere on your Mac

Paste a link, drop one onto the window, use Fetch with Clip Fetcher in the Services menu on selected text, or open a clipfetch:// link from any app.

Built for agents

JSON commands and an MCP server let an assistant resolve, fetch, search, transcribe, summarize, and file clips with no window opening.
